Factors That Influence Pricing
Country
Western Europe costs more than Eastern Europe. Living costs and local labour markets drive it.
Technical Specialisation
General mechanical and electrical maintenance sits at the low end. PLC programming and automation cost more, because fewer technicians do that work. Commissioning sits at the top.
Emergency vs. Planned Work
An emergency callout commonly costs 30% to 50% more than planned work. Weekends and public holidays cost more again.
Mission Length
A longer mission can come with a better day rate. The technician has guaranteed work and fewer gaps between missions. A single-day callout usually costs more per day.
Certifications and Clearances
Specialist certificates, such as ATEX or CompEx for hazardous areas, or experience of GMP pharmaceutical sites, can push the rate up. The technician paid for the training and carries the compliance work.
How to Compare Quotes
Don't stop at the headline rate. Check:
- Travel and accommodation: included, or charged on top.
- Any minimum charge, such as a minimum number of days.
- What happens if the work runs over the estimate.
- Professional liability insurance.
